Dave Amos, Scotland

Still trying to get my head round the gig I witnessed on Friday night. I went because I've been following the Waterboys for many years and the chance to see them play in not only Edinburgh but in a place I spent many Saturday mornings as a child. So there we were, my partner and I, in a place I used to watch many Scottish themed shows and a little apprehensive about how the gig would play out. We went early to soak up the atmosphere and get blasted by the cold breeze winding its way through the trees. A great setting with the beautiful gardens and the castle looming above us. After hearing some fine music by Freddie Stevenson and Joe Chester we watched expectantly as the Waterboys crew did the final checks. They checked everything not just once but twice and more, making sure the sound was as good as it could be. Not long after the band took to the stage and blasted off in great form and the sound was fantastic. Throughout the set we and the people sitting around us noticed the full Moon rising in behind the grandstand. Sure enough, more and more of the crowd noticed the Moon slowly rising behind the stands and the trees, would it, could it ? We waited right to the last song and as Mike Scott struck up the first few bars of "The Whole of the Moon" sure enough the Astral gods rewarded us with the cloud clearing and a beautiful clear full moon appeared. As the band drove the song harder the crowd went crazy as they saw the overhead show with cameras hurriedly pointing to the sky and the stage to capture the moment. Then, as if on cue, the fireworks from the castle began. As Mike and the band powered though the song the fireworks were exploding above us, some of them appearing to fill the sky and dropping on top of your head. Then it was over, the fireworks stopped, the band took their final bow and clouds drew a veil over the celestial show. It didn't seem to matter to the crowd who were being carried home by the magic they had witnessed, a show unlike any other any had seen!! Thank you to the organisers for locating the show in the pavilion, the musicians for giving their all, the Tattoo for providing the fireworks and whoever arranged the guest appearance by the Full Moon. Man, what a night !!!!

Sammi Watson, England

Hi, I have already written on the guestbook explaining about my 2 late uncles, Martin and Paul who absolutely loved The Waterboys (and I got a lovely email reply which I am very grateful for). I said in my last message that myself and the other ladies in my family are coming to watch the waterboys at Bridgewater Hall in Manchester in November. I am writing again to enquire about the songs that are going to be performed. Will it be the songs from the new album 'modern blues' and some of the most well known songs? Also, I know you most likely don't take requests for songs (I understand you're not djs at a party haha) we are all just hoping that you perform'a girl called Johnny' and 'How long will I love you' as they are so personal to us as a family. Thanks again! :) Sammi x

Hello Sammi,

The setlist in November will most likely contain a lot of songs from Modern Blues (since this is the Modern Blues tour) but will also include some old faves as well.

Love,
Paige

Thank you so much, Waterboys! Your concert in Bloemendaal last Saturday was great and the venue looked like some place in a fairy tale. I loved the version of DBTD sooo much! The audience went wild while listening to your marvellous sound from the stage behind the arrangement of waterlilies.

Heaven touched Caprera Theatre in Bloemendaal yesterday. Girls were calling Johnny. We saw Elvis. And there was a long strange golden road :-)
Waterboys thank you for a great concert on a lovely location.

Despite the fact that there was water between the audience and the platform yesterday in the Caprera-Bloemendaal-open-air-theatre, and this border would be splashed in the 60-ies, by jumping in people, all drunk and naked, like Mike suggested, but this did not happen yesterday in 2015, I still noticed that although that there was that border, the power of this music still landed directly without deviation in my heart!

I wonder if Mike has ever considered mining some of Art O'Murnaghan's artistic output - plays, stories, tunes - for future Waterboys music. Art seems to be a sadly unsung spiritual and artistic son of Ireland. http://viewfromthebighills.blogspot.co.uk/2012/04/dion-fortunes-legacy-part-3.html

Hi Paige, it's almost sure i will ser the Waterboys at LAURUS NOBILIS Festival. I would like to know more about the ser list for the concert; will the Waterboys play some old songs or mainly songs from Modern Blues?. I would like to know how to proceed to share a couple of words with Mike (maybe at the end of the show)? and even with you, Paige, will you be there?.

Greetings from Portugal, Carlos

I first saw the Waterboys in 1983 when I sneaked in as a young 15 year old to the Heathery Bar in Wishaw, Scotland. I was luckly enough to get to meet the original members of the band. I look forward to the Wickerman Festival as a very young 47 year old who will be at the front of the crowd shouting for "A girl called Johnny", "December", "Where are you when I need you?" ---- the list goes on!
