I missed the show in San Diego on the 15th, so rode up to Ventura the following day. I'm 29 but have seen Dylan, Kristofferson, Elton John, Cohen...

May 16 at the Majestic in Ventura was the best show I've ever seen! No joke and I'll leave it at that. Cheers! Sandera

Their set last night was awesome! They teased us so long by withholding Fisherman's Blues. All the tunes were great in worth the wait. Kudos! Great band!

Still somewhat blissed out from the Victoria show 36 hours ago. We are among the folks who travelled some distanceŁ to see the band, and we loved every minute. We have realised that Mike's music makes up pretty much half of what we listen to. He is the only chap we know carrying an electric guitar who sings about the things we care about. We have wished we could see him live for years. Live in Princes Street Bandstand would be nice, but live in a room where one can see and hear the band was downright special. Thanks to Mike and today's Waterboys for a lovely evening!

Thank you for your excellent performance last night in Victoria!. I prefer to see live shows without listening to the recordings first and I feel so fortunate to have been introduced to modern blues in such an amazing acoustic auditorium. I only wish we were a more enthusiastic audience!!

My experience at the show was like what the UK Telegraph described your new album as, "likely to induce a state of rapture"...I loved the duet version of "Don't bang the drum" and when you rocked "We will not be lovers" it was overwhelming!! The venue had us seated and fighting the the urge to leap up and rock out provoked an intense emotional response complete with leaking eyes! I will never forgive myself for sitting on my butt! Believe me, my spirit was whirling and transformed. Thank you so much.

Totally blown away by the show last night in Victoria.
Honestly, the tightest band I have seen since Springsteen and the E-Street Band -- yes, that amazing !

Any chance of an alternative Dorset date this year to make up for Sherbourne Castel cancellation?
The Waterboys are easily the best live band I have ever seen -could really do with another dose!! Please!

This band was fantastic! They played their hearts and souls out for hours in Ventura last night. Mike Scott, Steve Wickham and the rest of this great band rocked the house. The deserve a better venue but we are grateful they came our way on this tour up the California coast. Connor Kennedy and Minstrel were the perfect opener. I highly recommend you get off your butts and stand for however long they are willing to play! THANK YOU GUYS!

So disappointed to find that Sherbourne Castle festival in UK in June with Waterboys been cancelled as would have been my first time to see the band live.
Wonder if could have answer to my posting a few days ago asking about Mike's very emphatic style of delivery of songs particularly in Mr Yeats. Is this influenced by Yeats himself who believed in "declaiming" the poetry?

Hi Mike, fantastic show at Fonda on Wednesday and the band were brilliant as well. It was great to see people just enjoying playing music. So many smiles all round.

I'm headed to Ventura on Saturday for another round. Please could you consider playing This is the Sea and also Bang on the Ear. Don't cut any of the set just play an extra 15 minutes because you know you love it.

5 Years ago, the Abbey theatre in Dublin, the Yeats show:
I visited the premiere. It started with a big silence. Then The Hosting of the Shee marched into the hall, 100% perfect, 100% concentration, 100% teamwork. That first song builded up and contained the energy for the rest of the evening. The rest of the evening grew on that start-shot. And a dream was realized.

I will never forget that appointment with mr. Yeats, with music, and especially with teamspirits!

When in San diego, you MUST play "A Man is in Love"!! It was our wedding song in 1993 and we are going to the concert for our 22 anniversary! Pleeeeeeese!!!! "Old England" would be nice too, I'm a Liverpudlian, but live in California. Thanks, you're the best, can't wait for the show!!!!

Guys - My wife and I saw the band in Pittsburgh last month. It was a GREAT show...I was the clown (or harlequin) that shouted "thank you for coming to Pittsburgh" during the show that night.

We are going to be in San Fran on the night of the show at the Fillmore, and will be joined by our three adult offspring on a California vacation. I am thrilled that we just bought tickets for all five of us that night.

Our oldest plays the violin and currently lives in Buenos Aires. We are actually bringing him a violin pickup to take back to Argentina to allow him to play at open mic nights with his friends.

Can I give a modest request for We Will Not Be Lovers at the San Fran show?

Thanks. I am really looking forward to seeing you guys again!!

One of the best shows I have seen in a long time!!

I only discovered The Waterboys awesome music in 2011, after receiving the gift of music (This Is The Sea) from a friend. The song, This Is The Sea, has become a personal anthem and so symbolic of our life in a new country!! Please consider playing that amazing song in either LA or Ventura.... btw love your new album and can't wait to hear it performed live!!!

Went to the pub last night and the moment I entered he band played purple rain, instantly reminded me of the fantastic Waterboys! How you played it in London, naturally your rendition was far superior. Thanks Paige for the elucidation on that one song, you are most sweet.

I attended the concert at the Wintergarden theatre last weekend and overall, the concert was great. First time!
The facility is amazing and the band's sound was perfect.
That said, while there is always the odd overzealous fan who needs to speak up or interact with the band, you would think the guy who accepts our hard earned cash would respond to his guests with a little more humour or tact than throwing back profanities like he was twenty years old again.
A band leader needs to respect every paying fan, especially the poor girl who asked you to play some old stuff. Yes, dumb call out but it did not require a shot back that may have made her leave totaly red faced.
Sorry but I thought you needed to hear this.
Still love the band, the music and especially the new album
Thx
B

What a fabulous show at First Avenue in Minneapolis last night! I'm still in awe! I loved your energy last night (Brother Paul rocks!!!), and your arrangements on We Will Not Be Lovers and The Whole of the Moon, among others. And of course, hearing Purple Rain at the club that made Purple Rain famous was extra special. The place was electric! Thank you!!! Come back again soon.

Can we please have the lyrics for Modem Blues put up on this site as I often find myself struggling to know what Mike is uttering. In I Can See Elvis for instance, what is it exactly that Elvis wrote? Kernel or something, what's that mean?

Webteam writes:

The verse is:

"I can see Elvis, he's writin' something down in a little leather journal, and here are all the words he wrote: "I am gonna slit the throat of that skinflint, the Colonel""

The Colonel refers to Colonel Tom Parker, who was Elvis Presley's manager.

You can read about him here:

Paige

Only got to know Waterboys last year as result of interest in poetry set to music and finding Appointment with Mr Yates. Now my favourite band. Inspiring musicianship. Have worked my way through back catalogue of discs and the live shows on You Tube -have band not issued any DVDs? Just one point to make - have heard a number of people ask about
Mike's "over emphatic" delivery of the songs in Mr Yeats and Modern Blues. Wondered if Mikehad adopted this technique from his
knowledge of Yeats view about "declaiming" the poetry?
